(Mesquite Police Department) On Friday, August 12, at approximately 11:00 p.m. Mesquite Police officers responded to a report of a pickup truck that had been stolen from a residence just minutes earlier. The caller knew the suspect and was able to provide a good description of the male and the direction in which he fled. Officers also learned the suspect had stolen the keys from the victim’s house and took off in the truck without permission before the victim could stop him.
Officers immediately began to search for the truck and also alerted surrounding law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout. The truck was equipped with a GPS tracking device which showed the suspect fled into Arizona at a high rate of speed. Using the GPS location, Mohave County Sheriff’s Deputies were able to find the pickup and took the suspect into custody without incident for possession of the stolen vehicle.
Kyle David Cope, 34, of Mesquite, will be charged in Nevada with felony grand larceny of a motor vehicle, second offense when he is released from Mohave County Jail.
Due to the felony charges Cope will be booked into Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas.
“The immediate action of our officers and our strong relationships with all neighboring law enforcement agencies, and of course the GPS device, aided in the quick resolution and safe return of the stolen truck” said Chief MaQuade Chesley. “Thank you to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office deputies for helping us get this criminal off the streets”.
