The Sunrise Rotary Club kicked off its monthly gently used book sale on Thursday, Sept. 8, directly from their new permanent location in Room 1 of the Collage of Southern Nevada, Mesquite at the Jimmie Hughes Campus at 150 N. Yucca Street.

“We plan to have sales on the 2nd Thursday of each month right here, from 9 am until 3 pm,” said Club President Richard Gutierez. “No more lugging books to the library patio for the sale.”

Attendees of the sale found an organized grouping and labeling of books all on shelves, just like in a library. It was easy to find what they were looking for, in a climate-controlled area.

The Rotary Club collects the books all year and are always happy to receive book donations. All the monies from the sales of the used books go to “Mesquite Reads,” a program designed to help spread the word about the joy of reading to elementary school children and their parents.

Rising Star Resort in a partnership with the Sunrise Rotary Club, Eureka Community Initiative (ECI) Director Gerri Chasko organizes a book give-away for students and parents of JL Bowler Elementary School, Virgin Valley Elementary School and Beaver Dam Elementary School in early spring. That way, the children have books to read through the summer.

The Eureka Resort also matches funds raised by the Rotary Club. Then the books are purchased through the State of Nevada’s “Spread the Word” reading program.

Rotary Member Deb Parsley said, that the Club made $128.00 on Thursday alone.
“If we do that amount each month then we are well on our way to beat what our goal was at the annual book sale held once a year!.” Parsley said.

The next book sales will be on October 13, November 10 and December 8.
Anyone wishing to donate books to Rotary should contact Deb Parsley at 702-420-4494.
