No One Asked Me But… (October 5, 2022)

By DR. LARRY MOSES

No one asked me but… We live in an era of the “big lie”. People with special interest, more often than not political in nature, make outlandish claims. Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels when speaking of English propaganda during WWII is credited with saying, “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.” Anyone who’s read George Orwell’s book 1984 wouldn’t be surprised to know that political officials are capable of lying to maintain or to gain power.

Those politicians that are basing their campaign for office on the claim that the overturning of Roe v. Wade has made abortion illegal in the United States have distorted what the Supreme Court ruled. The Supreme Court ruled the right to an abortion is not a power granted to the federal government under the Constitution.

With this action the court revived the nearly extinct 10th Amendment to the Constitution which states “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.” This decision turns the issue of legal abortion over to the governments of the various states.

In Section 8 of Article One. The Constitution states if a power is not listed, the power is reserved for the states or to the people. The powers listed include the power to lay and collect taxes; pay debts and borrow money; regulate commerce; coin money; establish post offices; protect patents and copyrights; establish lower courts; declare war; and raise and support an Army and Navy. You may notice that these powers do not include the power to collect an income tax. That was given to the federal government by the 16th Amendment. Which goes to show that there is a way to increase the direct power of the federal government.

The power to grant an abortion is not listed as a power of the federal government; therefore, it is a power reserved for the state or the people. The Supreme Court did not ban abortions. It merely stated that it was not a power reserved for congress.

Here in Nevada the abortion law will remain as is. In fact, Gov. Sisolak has openly stated that Nevada will welcome, and in some cases help finance out of state clients in the use of Nevada abortion clinics. This seems only logical that a state whose financial well-being is based on gambling, prostitution, legalized drug use, as well as quickie divorce would add abortion as a major industry.

Unfortunately for Democrat candidates, the abortion issue is all they have to hang their hats on. Since the 2020 election, inflation is eating into the income of American families. Foreign policy, including the debacle in our withdrawal from Afghanistan, has weakened America’s role as a world power. There has been an increase in violent crime and property crime since the election of 2020. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, the index of 30 of the largest blue-chip stocks in the market was at 36,488 when the present leadership took control of the country. As of today the Dow is at 29,725, a loss of almost 8,000 points. The stock market is the holder of most retirement programs, and, therefore, retirees are taking a great financial hit.

In 2020, the average gas price per gallon in the State of Nevada was $2.85, today it is $5.12. As a side note, can someone explain to me how Alamo, Nevada can have a lower gas price than Logandale, Nevada? It surely is not easier to get gas to Alamo than Logandale.

The southern border is out of control with illegal aliens pouring into Texas at the level of an invasion. Our Vice-President has stated that there is no border problem. Our Senator has indicated that the borders are closed. Is this a “big Democrat lie” being repeated in hopes that we will believe it? Or are Republican politicians, with the aid of conservative media, perpetrating a “big Republican lie” about illegal immigration to gain an advantage in this year’s election?

No one asked me but… I am tired of the attack ads alleging that one’s political opponent is a criminal of one kind or another. If you are to believe most of the campaign TV spots the Nevada voter will have a choice between which criminal they will vote into office. I am sorry if I don’t believe that Gov. Sisolak’s wife made $250,000 on a business deal because her husband was the governor. Nor do I believe that his opponent received $18,000,000 for his campaign from people he gave contracts to when he was the sheriff of Clark County. It seem logical that while Sheriff he approved a number of contracts, and it is also logical that some of those contractors would support his bid for Governor. If Joe Lombardo had $18,00,000, you would have seen a whole lot more Joe Lombardo ads

At this point in the campaign, I can commend both Representative Steve Horsford and Attorney General Aaron Ford for I have yet to see them resort to attack ads on their opponent. In fact, I have yet to hear them utter the name of their opponent. The only negative add against Ford’s opponent is sponsored by a support group of abortionists. It makes one wonder who is Sigel Chattah?

There have been a positive ad or two from Horsford’s opponent, Sam Peters. But Representative Horsford has given him no free advertisement by mentioning him. Sam Peters has refrained from making corruption claims against Horsford either. All of this may change as the election nears but we can hope not.

In the race for Congressional District One, I would not even know who was running against Dina Titus if it were not for her attack ads on her opponent, Mark Robertson. This appears to be a strategy for the Republicans. They seem to have, for the most part, disappeared assuming everyone will look at how the country has changed since the 2020 election and vote to move away from those who are now in power.

Thought of the week… No diet will remove all the fat from your body because the brain is entirely fat. Without a brain, you might look good, but all you could do is run for public office.
