The Progress
Homecoming week at Virgin Valley High School is a time of tradition, celebration and excitement. The whole week of festivities culminates in the Homecoming Dance on Saturday evening.
As that big event approaches, great preparations have gone in to making the event go smoothly.
One of the necessities that are required for the Homecoming Dance is the flowers. FFA takes responsibility each year of providing for this need. The FFA students actually make corsages and boutonnières for all the lovely couples who want to accent their outfits at the dance. Orders begin every week before a dance at VVHS.
And what is a Homecoming Dance without the dancing? For all of those teens who want to add a bit of a refinement to their dancing skills, the FFA can help there too.
FFA Advisor Bailey Kesl and students Kayleen Perez, Paola Trujillo, Reymond Trujillo, and Shanna Vazquez have been hosting dance lessons every Thursday afternoon leading up to the Homecoming dance.
Those who have attended were able to learn a variety of dances ranging from slow-paced and romantic Bachata to a quick and snappy line dance to the song Footloose.
One student, Julio Aispuro, recalls how the experience played out for him.
“The class helped me learn how to dance with a partner without being awkward,” Aispuro said.
Attending the dance lessons was a memorable experience for students. The lessons were quick and to the point, easily accessible for anyone willing to learn a little.
FFA is excited to see all of their students apply these lessons on Saturday evening, October 8.
The dance lessons will continue, even after Homecoming for those interest. They are held every Friday in the FFA room at Virgin Valley High School.
