Dead body found in Mesquite

By VERNON ROBISON

The Progress

Mesquite Police Department officers responded, earlier this week, to reports of a deceased person in a desert lot on W. Pioneer Blvd. The call for service came in at around 3:20 pm on Tuesday, Oct. 4. Officers quickly arrived on scene to find a deceased male in a location which was visible from the road.

According to MPD Public Information Officer Wyatt Oliver, officers found no evidence of foul play in the incident.

“It was in a bit of an odd place for sure,” Oliver said. “But other than that there was nothing suspicious about it. It was most likely a suicide at this point.”

Oliver emphasized that the final cause of death would be released by the coroner’s office after a full investigation.

Oliver added that, though this instance was unfortunate and tragic, these situations are sadly not  unusual; even in Mesquite.

“We seem to have these kinds of things come in waves for some reason,” Oliver said. “Like in the middle of the pandemic, we had a month where it seemed like we had suicide calls all the time. And then suddenly we will go six months where there is nothing like that. It is a sad call to go on. Unfortunately,  we see them all too often.”

An official from the County Coroner’s office was called to the scene on Tuesday to retrieve the body.

As of Friday, the matter was still under investigation, according to the Coroner’s office. The identity of the subject had not yet been released.
