The Annual October National Fire Prevention Week culminated on Saturday morning, Oct. 15 with the Mesquite Fire & Rescue Community Pancake Breakfast held at Fire Station #3.

The fire trucks were polished and on display in the driveway of the station. The ladder truck was raised high waving the American flag. To everyone’s delight Mercy Air landed the helicopter right behind the firehouse for viewing.

Inside one corner held the children’s little firehouse and picture board complete with clown Nozzle to answer questions and entertain the kids.

CERT and the Mesquite Cancer Society had donation tables set up complete with pink fire boots.
The firefighters and CERT members were also cooking and serving a crowd of happy breakfast eaters, after all firefighters are known for being good cooks.

It was the first year attending the event for Charlie and Vanessa Fruit. They were with their friends Carl Albredht and Marica Jackson. All agreed the food was great and the meal was generous.

Mayor Al Litman and most of the members of City Council were there having breakfast and talking with the citizens.
“We could not do this without the help of CERT,” said Fire Chief Jayson Andrus. “They are great and I want to thank them and the Salvation Army. They donated the syrup and the bacon.”
Chief Andrus’ wife and kids were there enjoying breakfast with him.

Firefighter Neil Heizelbetz, coordinator for Fire Prevention Week activities said, “Fire departments celebrate Fire Prevention Week every year to bring awareness for fire prevention and protect the children. Mesquite’s Department sent their Fire Prevention clowns around to each of the local schools to entertain the children while educating them on Fire Prevention and what to do in case of an emergency.”
