OBITUARY: Andrew Mark Barton

Andrew Mark Barton

Andrew Mark Barton

Andrew Mark Barton passed away peacefully at home in Mesquite, NV on Sunday, October 16, 2022 after courageously battling an aggressive form of cancer. He was born January 1st, 1950 in Malden, MA.

Andy grew up in Medford, MA and graduated from Lexington High School in 1968. He went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in English Language and Literature (with honors) from University of South Florida in Tampa, FL, followed by a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and then a Master’s Degree in Public Administration, both from City University in Seattle, WA.

Andy held numerous municipal management positions throughout the country over the span of his career, including Assistant to the City Manager in Kirkland, WA, City Manager of Fernandina Beach, FL, and Town Administrator of New Castle, CO, before retiring after his longtime role as the City Manager of Mesquite, NV.

Known for his sense of humor and soft-spoken leadership style, Andy truly enjoyed working with his employees, starting every weekly staff meeting with a joke. Andy also enjoyed fast cars, old movies and trivia, swimming and working out, and spending time with his wife and two cats, Sammie and Gracie. Throughout his life, he found comfort in Eastern spirituality.

He is survived by his wife Cathy, of Mesquite, NV; his son David (Erin) Barton of Bellingham, WA; stepdaughter Andrea (Jay) Soemadi of Salem, OR; sisters: Enid Gold and Nancy Altman; nephews: Dr. Richard (Barti) Gold, Alan (Anne) Gold, his late nephew’s wife Paula, William (Lori) Altman, and Larry Altman.

Andy was preceded in death by his mother, Esther (Lieberman) Barton and his father, Dr. David Joseph Barton, and nephew Bruce Gold.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to an animal rescue or wildlife sanctuary, causes that Andy felt strongly about.

Family and friends are invited to leave a message or memory on the guestbook at www.starmortuary.com.
