Ronnie Spute

Ronnie Spute, 77, passed away October 23, 2022 in Moapa, NV, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born February 15, 1945 in Overton, NV to Harry M. Spute and Louise Steve, and was raised by Jim and Flora Myers.

He attended Stewart Indian School in Carson City, NV and participated in basketball and swimming and was a drum major for the school band. He moved back to Moapa and graduated from Moapa Valley High School. He earned a scholarship to BYU, but had to forego this opportunity when he was drafted into the United States Army to fight in Vietnam as an airborne division.

He met Linda Jake, and they were married September 20, 1968. They lived in Las Vegas for a while where he worked various jobs. They later moved to Fredonia, AZ where he worked as a millwright for Kaibab Industries, until an accident in 1987 left him disabled. They raised their five daughters in Fredonia/Six Mile and were later divorced.

Ronnie loved his family and especially loved to spend time with his grandchildren. He would teach many of them how to play basketball and he was an excellent side-line coach. He made every effort to always travel to watch their games. He loved watching college basketball and football as well as watching NFL football, the Price is Right, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. He loved going on road trips and taking Sunday drives. He loved playing scratchers cards.

Prior to his accident he was an avid team roper and traveled to many rodeos and team ropings. He was a devoted father. He was humble and kind, and would always give positive advice. He loved teasing his grandkids, and had a sharp wit.

Ronnie is survived by his daughters: Ronica (Alfred) Spute, Tara (Sam) Spute, Jacqueline (Christopher) Spute-Isaac, Denise Spute and Christina (Jake); thirteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his siblings: Ralph Lane, Cherie Nicholson, the Myers family, and a large extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings: Evelyn Nicholson, Leonard Hill, and Clarence (Buck) Lee.
