The Progress
The halls of the Old Logandale School were stirring with activity on Wednesday, Oct. 19 during the annual Witches Nite Out put on by the Old Logandale School Historic and Culture Society (OLSHACS).
This event offered classes to anyone interested in creating fall crafts and foods.
The creator of the event is OLSHACS Executive Director Robin Maughan. “I like to have fun!” Maughan said. “I know OLSHACS is a great venue for that. Tonight we offered classes where local ladies can mingle and create new friendships.”
With the help of several talented women from the area, classes were held to make homemade rootbeer, mini fruit pies, reversible stacked pumpkins and snowman, Halloween characters out of wooden pegs, wooden pumpkin/leaf garlands, and candy dishes.
Age was not a barrier as women of all ages attended. Some of the attendees were new to the Moapa Valley community while others had been here for years.
“It was fun painting and visiting with each other,” said Holly Plassman, a local crafter and one of the class participants. “I met some new people here tonight, too.”
The next big event on the docket for OLSHACS is Festival of Trees. It will be held on November 17-19.
“We invite any business, groups, families or individuals to donate a decorated Christmas Tree to our event,” Maughan said. “Once it is brought to us, we take over the responsibility of auctioning it, and the new owners take it home.”
The Festival of Trees is a fund raiser with all proceeds going to the maintenance of the Old Logandale School building as a public space.
