The annual Family Friendly Halloween Carnival was held at the Old Overton Gym on Friday evening, Oct. 28. As always, it was a house full of little spooks, ghouls, and their families having a fun Halloween time.

Lorrie Rust and Cindy Soderquist were selling the carnival tickets at the door.
“The crowd began at 4:30 pm and hasn’t stopped ever since,” Rust said. “It is so well attended every year.”

Volunteers ran the carnival, making it a fun festive Halloween evening for local children. Halloween-costumed children wandered from booth to booth playing old fashioned games such as the Milk Bottle Toss and waiting for a turn at the Fishing Hole.

The bake sale, run by the Ben Robison family, had tables filled with tasty treats.
“I am so grateful for Stephanie Thornton and the middle school dance team, the Marinettes,” said Anita Shanahan, organizer of the carnival said. “They helped operate the game booths. If I didn’t have them, we wouldn’t be able to run this carnival. They help out so much!”

Emma, Jackson and Annie Mortensen enjoy plenty of treats at the Old Overton Gym carnival held last week.

Shanahan also expressed her appreciation to all the volunteers, including the MVHS Honor Society, who ran the spook alley; Simplot, who donated the popcorn and its supplies, and all of her family.
Hal and Jeanna Mortenson brought their grandchildren to the carnival. The annual event has become a family favorite for them, Hal said.
“We brought our grandchildren last year and had so much fun we were excited to bring them again!” he said.

Spiderman Kyell Neil, a 3rd grader said, “I like the carnival because it has fun games. My favorite is the bowling game.”

Board members of The Society for the Preservation of the Old Overton Gymnasium were in attendance enjoying the evening and receiving new and renewing memberships. The Society is a non-profit tax deductible corporation that looks to the public for support to fund operations that keep the facility in good repair and safe for the community to use.

Society President Ben Robison commented, “The carnival is one of our greatest activities each year and we appreciate all who come.”
