The Progress
Storybook pumpkin characters were created by students at J.L. Bowler Elementary in Bunkerville last week. These colorful and crafty pumpkins are on display at the school.
The students were invited last week to create a character from their favorite storybook with help from their family. The school is focusing on promoting family engagement activities to bring family members together. Parents will be able to view the clever and imaginative pumpkin characters at the “Pumpkin Run” on October 20 at the school.
Dilan Martinez likes Halloween heroes from Hooky and made a pirate and his ship.
Roper and Lavoy Cox had fun making their pumpkins into Hank and the “cow” with real horns from their favorite book, Hank the Cow Dog.
Austyn Wright created a Dog Man, and Pete and the Cat was a favorite character of Lili Owstey.
A frog was made by Devin Martin from the book, Frog and Toad.
Noah Iniguey likes the book Elijah and Piggie, and Gerado Moreno, Jr. likes the Grinch Stole Christmas. He created a reindeer.
Brooks Leavitt created Firestone, the army guy, complete with camouflage colors, hat, sunglasses and flag.
Where the Wild Things Are is the favorite book of Gabriella Mova and Elijah Garcia made the cute cat, Skippy Joe, complete with big ears. Cora Omer likes Charlotte’s Web and made a pink pumpkin in a barn with Wilbur. Splat the Cat books were a favorite of Ember Onisko and Terrin Lujius. Kassandra Hillius liked the book 101 Dalmatians and Peppa Pig is the character that Avery Jackson chose.
Each participant will receive a certificate stating their book title, a treat, and the winners will receive a prize. The activity encouraged the students to read, think about what they liked about the characters in the book and talk to their family about the book.
Assistant Principal, Ms. Donald, started the activity this year and said that they plan to have other family engagement activities throughout the year.
