The Progress
The Mesquite Republican women did a fantastic job of relaying the news on short notice that U.S. Senate candidate Adam Laxalt would be in town. The Laxalt Bus tour included Mesquite in its series of stops on Tuesday, Oct. 24. Approximately 100 people showed up to welcome Laxalt to town at the Mesquite Republican Women (MRW) office in the Brickyard shopping center.
Laxalt brought a few other candidates with him on the tour. These included Stavros Anthony, running for Nevada Lieutenant Governor, and Andy Mathews running for Nevada State Controller. Each candidate gave a short stump speech at the event.
There were also other special guests along for the ride. Kash Patel, former chief of staff to the Secretary of Defense under President Donald Trump; and Ted Macy, President of Gun Owners of America; came aboard to support the candidates.
“(U.S. Senator Catherine) Cortez-Masto has voted for anti-gun legislation at every opportunity, while Adam Laxalt has supported us nationwide,” said Macy.
Laxalt took time to shake people’s hands who were in attendance. He told them of things he would be doing different than Cortez-Masto, once in office. He reminded the crowd that his opponent had not been to the southern border at all to see the many problems there.
“I was there just eight weeks ago!” he said.
Laxalt talked about some of the border issues he saw during that most recent visit.
Patel chimed in saying that when he was working in the Trump administration one fentanyl pill cost $20.00. Now the same pill costs $2.00 on the street, he said.
“It is affordable to all our kids because there is so much of it crossing the border,” Patel said.
“Terrorists are coming over our border,” Laxalt added. “Senator Cortez-Masto has done nothing to stop our open southern borders.”
“We must save Nevada!” Laxalt concluded. “Vote red all the way down the ticket. We have just one shot at this!”
All the candidates spent time standing for photos with those in attendance.
The crowd was worked up and enthusiastic. Local resident Stephen Cox said, “I helped his grandfather (former Nevada Sen. Paul Laxalt) run for office and now I am here to support Adam.”
Attendees Kevin and Ivy Dominquez, who are new to Mesquite from California, said they were there to hear what Laxalt had to say. They were very happy to have gotten the call from MRW to come to the bus tour stop.
Many people, at Laxalt’s suggestion were writing their names and their thoughts about Laxalt and his campaign on the bus.
MRW President Sue Smith said, “We are delighted to be able to host the Republican candidates and we are pleased that we have the facilities to hold these fun events.”
