VIRGIN VALLEY COMMUNITY FOOD BANK NEEDS TURKEYS

The Virgin Valley Community Food Bank and Thrift Store is on a turkey hunt between now and Thanksgiving. And they are looking for help from the community.

For the last 20-plus years the Food Bank, under the direction of Gladys Smith and Leslee Montgomery, has provided Turkey Tuesday for families in the Virgin Valley. They distribute all the makings of a full turkey dinner to local families in need on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. The 2022 goal number is 200 turkey dinners to be distributed from 3:00 to 5:00 PM on November 22, while supplies last.

But this year there the Food Bank has run into a problem. Though they have been able to line up most of the makings for a great Thanksgiving dinner, there has been a shortage of turkey donations this year.  And the time is running short.

“We have come up short on our usual sources this year for various reasons,” said Leslee Montgomery. “So we are going to the people of our wonderful community for help. This is such a giving community that, any time we have a need, it is met quickly. And this is just one more thing that we need to help local families in need.”

The Food Bank is asking people to consider donating a turkey, or turkeys, to the cause. Turkey donations can be dropped off by November 21 at 312 West Mesquite Blvd. Unit 111, facing First South. Hours of the Food Bank are Mondays through Saturdays from 9 am until noon.

To receive a dinner on Turkey Tuesday, November 22, families of two or more, must be registered clients. No applications will be taken on November 22. Current 2022 registration is required. Families can register or re-register and participate in the weekly food distributions every Monday from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. Current ID for all family members is required for registration.

For questions about this community project, contact Leslee Montgomery at 702-540-3368.
