Clark County Parks and Recreation Logandale staff held a successful Trick or Treat celebration on Halloween night, Oct. 31 at the Clark County Fairgrounds.
“Last year we held the event at the Logandale Park,” said Recreation Specialist Lauralyn Robison. “But it was so crowded that we moved the event to the Logandale Fairgrounds.”
The evening started with a pumpkin painting contest for elementary school-aged children. There were plenty of pumpkins to go around and the children painted Halloween faces on the pumpkins. An award for the most adorable pumpkin was given to Briella Branson and the scariest pumpkin award was won by Meg Jolley. The winner of the Most Creative pumpkin was Maxim Gottschalk, who was from Germany visiting family.
Bounce houses were set up for children to jump in and have a fun time. Food trucks Soda Papa’s and Kuppa Joe were available to provide treats to the crowd.
Later, that evening, children visited the Trunk or Treat vehicles lined up on the south end of the fairgrounds.
There were all kinds of different costumes walking around to the various trunks.
Oakley Buttery and Tyler Cornelius were two friends in the process of being abducted by aliens. They were having a good time dragging their alien piggy-back riders around to the trunks looking for candy.
Little Wyatt and Hunter Dalley came to the trunk or treat with their parents. Wyatt, 4, came as a ninja;
while Hunter, 2, came as a fluffy little skunk. Dressed as a witch, their mom, Brittani, watched over the families trunk. Meanwhile dad Randall accompanied the two boys around the trunk route to bring in a sweet haul.
Metro Officer Dominic Drosos was awarded the Best Decorated Trunk with a huge spider lurking over the back of his police vehicle.
“Every year he comes without fail and we appreciate him for supporting our Halloween event,” said Robison of Drosos.
Mitch Stoker received the most creative trunk award. Mitch and his dad, Ron, had set up a full duck blind that they use at this time of year on waterfowl hunts. Mitch hid inside and Ron lured kids over to a candy bowl to help themselves. Just as they reached for the good stuff, Mitch would blow a puff of smoke at them from a smoke machine a concealed inside the blind. Mitch also had an attachment that blew huge round rings from the machine.
Jeanette and Danie Smith were handing out candy from the back of another vehicle. They said that they were there in memory of their uncle, Randy. He had made a family tradition of the local event for 22 years now.
“We are just here to keep it going and to honor him,” said Jeanette.
The Scariest Trunk award went to a grandpa and granddaughter team. The grand-daughter was Medusa and the grandfather was a figure turned to stone.
Other activities at the event included a cupcake walk and a donut-eating contest.
“Clea’s Fabulous Moapa Valley Realty had a carnival-themed trunk and they gave out free popcorn and hotdogs,” said Robison. “They are always supportive and we love having them come.”
