The Progress
Local singing group “Off the Rails” gave a concert at the Mesquite Community Theater on Friday evening, Nov. 4.
The all-senior classic rock group entertained the audience with songs from the 60s,70s and 80s. Selections included favorites from Fleetwood Mac, The Monkeys, Creedence Clearwater Revival, even a Willie Nelson song. All performed in their own style.
The group consists of three guitar players Al Vysink, Jim Blanco and John Maystadt. They have been playing together for the past four years, ever since they met in Sun City where they all live. They got together because they each liked the same styles of music and they all originally came from Chicago.
The men’s wives were in the lobby selling raffle tickets with a chance to win an iPad. Funds raised were going to the Virgin Valley Food Bank.
Terry and Janet Teetor were in the audience. It was their first time to hear the group. Janet said they loved the music and their favorite song was “Love Potion No. 9.” That happened to be my favorite too, they are so enthusiastic when they perform it.
Each of them took a turn doing 2 solo’s of their own choice. I have to say Al Vysink’s song “She Ain’t Rose” was a good choice. The words to the song made us all laugh.
Audience member Krista Kilpatrict and Marge Mongro said Rose was their favorite song.
They each play many different guitars and as they switched them, they told jokes.
The audience was sparse that night, there was a lot of other events taking place in Mesquite, but those who were there seemed to enjoy the group as much as the group enjoy playing and singing together.

Thanks for the article! We all appreciate your time and consideration.
One correction: My last name is spelled VYSINKA, with an A at the end. I don’t know if this can be changed prior to publication, but I wanted you to know.
FYI, we brought in ~$500.00 in donations to the VV Food Bank and we are hoping to go over there on Monday, November 21 between 3PM and 5PM to drop it off. If you would like to stop by, let me know.
