An important Moapa Valley business is going up for sale. And the current owners are hoping they can find a local buyer with the same interest in supporting the community as they have had.

Vanette and Gary Christensen are anticipating retiring from their custom embroidery and graphics shop, Xtreme Stitch, in the early spring of 2023. They would like to sell the operation as an effectively turn-key business.

“Over the past few years, we have built the business up from what it was when we purchased it,” said Vanette Christensen. “We have built up the client base, added more services and have developed a very stable staff with employees who do a great job of pretty much everything here. Now it is time for someone else to take it and move it forward.”

The Christensens bought Xtreme Stitch in the spring of 2018. The couple had retired from law enforcement in southern California and had moved to Moapa Valley several years before. They had been customers of Xtreme Stitch under the previous owners and had been impressed with the business and the quality it offered.

“When the previous owners told us they were selling it, we thought that we would hate to lose a good business like that in this valley,” Vanette said. “It is a unique operation and was different than what others were doing. We recognized it as a great way to serve this community that we love.”

At that time, Vanette was just about to turn 60. “I had chosen a career where I could retire fairly early,” she said. “So I said that I would give this business five years. Now we are coming up on that. We are starting to think about spending more time with each other and doing things together that we have wanted to do. You just never know what tomorrow will bring.”

When the Christensens took it over, Xtreme Stitch was focused solely on custom embroidery. The shop would send out a few other services, including screen printing orders, when needed.

Since that time, the Christensens have added new embroidery machines to increase their capacity. They are also doing screen printing on site. And they have recently added heat press equipment where they can do professional grade vinyl applications.

The Christensens have also beefed up the clothing options they have in stock. They carry clothing in adult, kids and even infant sizes.

“Most people don’t think of us this way but we are actually an apparel store with all kinds of name brands in stock,” Vanette said. “If people need shirts or hats or caps or bags or jackets, we have got them. And, of course, we can put a personal touch to each item to meet the customers unique needs or wishes.”

The business would also come with two solid and reliable employees who are fully trained.
“They both are really good at what they do,” Vanette said. “They go above and beyond in developing new graphics for us according to what the customer wants.”

Xtreme Stitch provides services and custom products to schools, youth athletic programs, junior rodeo groups, music ensembles and a myriad of area employers in both Moapa Valley and Virgin Valley.

But the Christensens also like to find opportunities where they can just give back to the community. They have funded school supplies for local classrooms. They have helped purchase athletic equipment for high school sports teams. They have supported and volunteered for local organizations. And they have done much more.

“We are hoping that we can pass the business on to someone who will continue that community-oriented tradition,” Vanette said. “There have been lots of things we do that are just supporting the community in various ways. That has really been my focus a lot of the time. The business has given us a chance to give back to help support other organizations in town.”

The Christensens expressed a willingness to help transition and train a new owner into the business.
“We feel like whomever takes it from us needs to be a good fit for the business and it’s got to be a good fit for them,” Vanette said. “So we are willing to help them however we can to get them off on the right foot.”
