Love Family is hosting their first annual Suicide Prevention Fundraiser on Saturday, Dec. 3 at Envy Nightclub and Lounge at 792 W. Pioneer Blvd in Mesquite. The event, being billed as a “Masquerade Disco Ball” will include a variety of fundraising efforts including a Performance Contest, Festive Photo Booth, and Limited Edition Ornaments. The doors will open at 9 pm.
Love Family got its start in June of 2021 when the organization hosted Mesquite’s first-ever Pride event at the local Rec. Center pool. Since then, members of the group have been working diligently to build lasting relationships within the community, and provide education and awareness to local families.
Since LGBTQ youth are said to be more than four times as likely to attempt suicide than their peers, Love Family places high priority on continuing the conversation of unity, education and support for local youth. All Love Family events are open to the public. All who attend can be celebrated for coming as their authentic selves.
Love Family organizer Dana Long said that the organization has focused a lot of attention on local youth. “I can’t stress enough how important the partnership with the schools will be for our youth,” Long said. “Our local students deserve to know that we are a diverse and beautiful community, and that it’s okay to be your authentic self, regardless of if that fits within societal norms for gender expression, and identity. We aren’t promoting anything other than authenticity, and safe environments for everyone, especially our youth.”
