Want to have an enjoyable evening of comedy? The Moapa Valley High School Theatre is presenting Moliere’s, “The Imaginary Invalid.” It will begin on Tuesday, November 15 and run through Thursday, Nov. 17 beginning nightly at 7pm in the Ronald Dalley Theatre at MVHS.
Moliere, a French playwright in the 1600s, is one of the greatest comedy writers of all time. “I wanted to expose my students to him and I felt we had the right kids for this play,” said MVHS Theatre Director Kenna Higgins. “He is very farcical and kids like that type of comedy.”
In this very funny masterpiece, the hypochondriac Argan wants his daughter to marry a doctor to save on his medical bills. But she’s in love with someone else. Soon the whole household is trying to save true love and give Argan’s doctors a dose of their own medicine.
According to Higgins, her students have been preparing all semester for this play. There are some major speeches in the show which have been a challenge to learn.
The Theater Tech class has also been building the set and preparing the lighting and sound. The play is set in the 1600s which has been interesting for them to learn about that time period’s types of decorations, clothing, and makeup styles.
“I hope we will have people come out to support our play,” Higgins said. “I would like to continue to rebuild our audience.Since COVID hit live performance has been hard. It’s always nice when our kids get to experience the energy, applause, and laughter from a full house. Whether it’s sports, band, or theatre, it’s great to have strong support.”
