The Progress
Representatives from the Overton Power District (OPD5) have recently presented checks to administrators of the two high schools within the OPD5 service territory.
The checks constituted the annual proceeds from the district’s Round Up for Education fundraising program which OPD5 oversees and administers for the local schools.
Now in its tenth year, Round Up For Education allows OPD5 customers to sign up to have their power bills rounded up to the nearest dollar each month. When they sign up, the customers also specify which school they want their donations to benefit. The difference then becomes a monthly small-change donation for their specified school. All of the funds raised in the program are presented in a check each year to the local schools.
This year a Round-Up check in the amount of $2,164.30 was presented to VVHS Principal Mike Wilson and Assistant Principal Stephen Waite.
Meanwhile, at Moapa Valley High School this year’s Round-Up check totalled $1,903.08. It was presented to MVHS Athletic Director Dallas Larson.
The funds from Round Up for Education are used at the discretion of the local schools in what administrators feel best helps their student body. It does not become a restricted part of the CCSD budget allotment to the school.
Signing up for the Round Up for Education program is easy. OPD5 customers can simply call the OPD5 office at 702-397-2512 in Overton, or at 702-346-5710 in Mesquite; or stop by their local OPD5 office in person; to start Rounding Up.
