A caravan of OHVs rolled into the Mesquite Police Department parking lot on Hardy Way on Friday afternoon, Dec. 9. It was members of the Kokopelli ATV club come to make a very special presentation to the department.
One of the riders brought along a Grinch. Others brought their dogs. But Kokopelli Club Treasurer LeAnn Kalstein and Club President Dominic Oliveto brought a check from the club in the amount of $3,500 to present to the police department for its annual Shop-With-A-Cop program.
Accepting the donation was MPD Public Information Officer Sergeant Wyatt Oliver. Oliver gratefully accepted the donation saying that it was certainly welcomed.
“We have sixty children to take shopping this year,” Oliver said.
Oliver stated that the money they received from all donors for Shop-with-a-Cop is only used for the children. Any monies that are not spent at Shop-with-a-Cop is used throughout the year to provide for needy children whom police come in contact with in various situations.
Oliveto said that it was an honor for Kokopelli ATV Club to be able to participate in the Shop-with-a-Cop program.
“We have 260 club members,” he said. “Local businesses and vendors have donated items we auction off at our meetings to help raise this money. Many members also individually donate money for this cause.”
