The Mesquite Toes Dance Troupe performed in a holiday production entitled “Jingled Your Way to Christmas” at the Mesquite Community Theater last weekend. It was the ‘Toes’ annual dance charity show. A portion of the money raised from ticket sales goes to “We Care for Animals” this year.

As usual, the senior dance troupe dazzled the audience with their routines and costumes. The Master of Ceremonies for the evening was Mesquite’s loveable Pericles Rellas with his corny jokes.

It was hard to pick which tune we enjoyed the most. A quick query as people left the theater brought “Candy Cane Lane” and “Let it Snow” to the lead in audience favorites.

Audience member Dave Domovlic said, “This show puts me in the Holiday spirit, it is awesome what these senior ladies do!”

Domovlic friend Chris Arellaml said, “These ladies are wonderful for Mesquite!”

Behind the scenes Chris Finnegan does a marvelous job with the Music and lights. The lighting effects in the different dance routines enhance the performances.

Among the bells and cheer, the troupe took a moment to remind the audience of the true Christmas Spirit. A huge manger scene graced the theatre as backdrop as the jazz team performed a lyrical dance to the song “Homeless. Tastefully” reminding us Jesus was homeless, and it is not where we live but how we live. The ladies performed this dance while wearing jeans and sweatshirts with a few shopping carts for emphasis.

Guest performers were the Sun River Utah, Jazz Dancers. Also from Sun River were John Norwig and Marcia Swider who performed a gracefully exhibition-style ballroom dance to “We Three Kings.”

In the audience Peggy Peterson and friend Janis Bianco said they loved the whole show and enjoyed all the costumes.

The clog team delighted the audience with “Hot Rod Sleigh” and “With Bells On.” The clogging instructors are Debbie Miller and Norma Rife.

The song “Man with a Bag” featured the only male dancer with the troupe: Phil Brittain. He is a trouper and is always entertaining.

Marge Westwood is the Mesquite Toes Director. Anyone, male or female, over the age of fifty may join the dance troupe and stay as young as these dancers.

The talented Mesquite Toes always leaves the audience feeling good and wanting to see more.
