The Progress
Students at Ute V. Perkins Elementary school in Moapa received a very generous Christmas donation last week. The Robert and Sandra D. Ellis Charitable Fund provided all of the students with new shoes, socks, and an age-appropriate toy.
Perkins is one of many schools in the Clark County School District that is a recipient of the generosity of the Ellis Fund over the course of nearly 15 years. In fact, the Fund has donated more than 20,000 pairs of shoes, socks, and 20,000 toys to CCSD students over that time.
The cafeteria room at Perkins was filled with excitement as the children were handed their new gifts.
“We have been receiving wonderful donations from the Ellis’ for several years now,” replied Lonia Pulsipher, Perkins’ Office Clerk.
Besides a new custom-fitted pair of Skechers tennis shoes and socks, the children received a larger gift item such as a Razor scooter, a drone, a Hotwheels set, or a dollhouse.
This is actually the second time this year that the Ellis’ have contributed to Perkins students. At the start of the school year, the administration/staff wanted to provide school T-shirts for the students, but they didn’t have the funds. Principal Hal Mortensen knew who to call. Soon a check arrived in the mail from the Ellis’s to fund school T-shirts for every student.
“We are grateful for Ellis’generosity,” said Perkins Assistant Principal Maryanne Eckenstam. “In a world where we get so wrapped up in ourselves, it’s nice to see true examples of the spirit of giving.”
