Volunteers from Moapa Valley FFA Chapter and the Clark County Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers program (YF&R)held their annual “Harvest for All” food drive at Lin’s Marketplace on Saturday, Feb. 11.
Volunteers stood outside the store throughout the day, collecting donations of non-perishable food items. All of the food collected was then delivered to the Cappalappa Family Resource Center food pantry in Overton.
YF&R is a program within the Nevada Farm Bureau meant to build, grow and develop young farmers and FFA alumni into Farm Bureau members. The group advocates for agriculture and to provide opportunities to network and give back to their communities.
YF&R’s Harvest for All Program has been running for over 20 years now. It has helped feed millions of Americans. In 2021 alone, the nationwide organization volunteered nearly 10,000 hours of service, collected 36 million pounds of food, and donated $258,000 dollars, to hundreds of food-banks across the country.
The local drive this year yielded over 180 bags of groceries estimated to be over 1200 lbs donated by local residents. In addition, over $150 in cash was collected to assist the Cappalappa Family Resource Center.
That evening another 200 cans of food were collected by the Moapa Valley Teen Leadership Corps at their Cupid Shuffle Barn Dance.
“The Clark County Farm Bureau, and it’s YF&R members, would like to thank the Moapa Valley FFA for their partnership, as well as the Moapa Valley TLC,” said Farm Bureau Field Representative Kyle Reber. “We would also like to thank Lin’s Marketplace, for allowing the use of their store-front to collect donations and their many years of support. Lastly, we want to thank the generous people of Moapa Valley who donated and made this years “Harvest for All” a success.”
The Clark County Farm Bureau will be an exhibitor at this years Clark County Fair and Rodeo, April 12-16. The organization’s new “Ag Wagon” display will be in the small animal barn.
