The Virgin Valley FFA chapter held its annual FFA Week celebration last week with plenty of festivities that involved the entire VVHS student body. FFA Week is a national event held across the country.

On Tuesday, the students started off the week with Pajama Day. After having the day off Monday for Presidents Day, this was a nice way to reel in the week.

Tuesday was also the start of a fundraiser called “Penny Wars.” Twenty-four teachers and staff competed at having the glorious chance to kiss a live pig at the end of the week. Each teacher had a piggy bank in their classroom for students to drop change in it. The participants’ curiosity grew each day wondering who was going to be in the top five.

Wednesday brought a successful dress up theme with Hat Day. Students definitely took up the chance to add an extra layer in the day’s chilly weather with hats and beanies. Some even got creative with it and wore sombreros and cowboy hats!

The leadership FFA class counted the Penny Wars money at the end of the day and set up the leaderboard.

On Thursday a competition was held between Floral vs Flannel.

Then to wrap up the week – and the penny wars – on Friday, the dress up day was Farmer Friday. Students showed up in their best farmer outfits with many wearing boots.

After the two first periods of the day, the much anticipated kiss a pig fundraiser was held during nutrition break in the quad.

Tango, the star of the afternoon, was led out by Torrance Sherman. Students gathered around in excitement as a live pig walked into their school. Then they watched the top five teachers in the Penny Wars kiss the pig.

The top five included Bailey Noel, Mrs. Cecilia, Mr. Waite, Mrs. Zarndt, and Officer Perry.
Zardnt was the first one up to kiss Tango. She was suited up in her farmer outfit and gave the pig a nice kiss on the cheek.

Next up was cheer coach, Bailey Noel who kissed him on the snout.

VVHS principal Mike Wilson even took the opportunity to kiss the pig. He warmed up to Tango by giving him some marshmallows and then went right for it.

Next up was Cecilia who was very hesitant about getting close to the pig. With some encouragement from the crowd and her daughter, she grabbed the pig by the nose and gave him a quick peck.

Bailey Kesl, Virgin Valley’s FFA teacher, was the final contestant to kiss the pig. At just the right time the bell rang for the students to get back to class and give a goodbye to Tango.

The Virgin Valley FFA wants to thank the students for participating in a successful FFA week and Mattyson Ellison for letting them borrow her pig for the fundraiser.
