The Progress
FFA Week was celebrated last week at Moapa Valley High. It was a fun time for all MVHS students to dress up and show their support towards local Future Farmers of America chapter. At the conclusion of each school day, there was a fun activity for the students.
FFA leadership officers had planned dress up days and activities so that students could raise awareness for FFA and its role in developing future leaders.
Tuesday was the first dress up day. Students were found around the school sporting camo due to the Hunting Season-themed dress up day. After school students competed to see who could draw the best-looking FFA emblem on Oreo frosting.
On Wednesday it was ‘Dress up as your Dad day. There were all sorts of unique outfits. Some borrowed their fathers pants and spent the school day walking around in oversized jeans. Others wore silly shirts and hats, also encapsulating their dads’ attire. In correlation with the dress up day, there was a hamburger cookout after school.
Thursday was a fun dress up day: Cowboys vs. Hippies. Students could either choose to dress up as a hippy or a cowboy. Both costumes were a hit. After school, there was a dummy roping activity in the quad.
On Friday, it was a blue and gold dress up day, or FFA Official dress if you had it. In addition to this it was also, “Drive anything but a car to school” day.
Students got really creative with this concept. Many drove dirtbikes, razors, and four wheelers. A few even drove their tractors to school and parked them out in the front circle.
MVHS senior Clay Whipple drove his big Caterpillar loader to school and parked it in the senior parking lot.
The students congregated at “wheelie flats that evening for a bonfire. Students both in and out of the FFA program congregated together to socialize and have a good time.
“This year our officers and leadership team came up with some fun ideas to keep the whole student body engaged in this busy week,” said FFA advisor Lacey Tom. “Every day was unique, just like our members in FFA. I appreciate all of our members and school participation and support this week!”
Andi Webber, MVHS FFA Chapter President expressed her pleasure with FFA week, “National FFA week gave our local chapter a great reason to get involved with our school, as well as strengthen our relationship with agriculture.”
