The Progress
Hey! No monkeyin’ around.
On Saturday, March 4, at Mack Lyon Middle School auditorium, local residents can join their favorite bunch of Jungle Book characters as they try to catch a tiger by the tail in the Missoula Children’s Theatre production of The Jungle Book, an original musical adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s classic.
The cast of this production involves about 50 local youngsters playing characters such as Mowgli the man-cub, Bagheera the panther, Baloo the bear, Akela the leader of the wolf pack, Shere Khan the tiger, Tabaqui the jackal, Nag and Nagaina the cobras, Darzee the bird, Hathi the master elephant, Rikki-Tikki-Tavi the mongoose, Kaa the rock-python, Buck, and many more beloved characters. Monkeyin’ around throughout the entire show are the Bander-log.
Moapa Valley students auditioned for the roles on Monday, February 27. The students have since been rehearsing every night this week in order to present the show to audience members on Saturday.
The Moapa Valley Performing Arts Council (MVPAC) sponsors the Missoula Children’s Theatre every year to bring timeless, children’s classics to Moapa Valley.
The directors and staff bring their tour to communities, hold auditions and rehearsals, and provide all the costumes and sets.
The production will include two shows on Saturday: a 2 pm matinee and a 6:30 pm performance.
Tickets are available at the door for $35 for a family, $10 for adults, and $8 for seniors and students.
Accepted payment methods are cash, check, venmo and credit cards.
