Fine Arts Entries Needed At The Clark County Fair

By CORINNE MESSER

The Progress

Delightfully displayed in the exhibit hall during the Clark County Fair is the Fine Arts Exhibit. Watercolors, acrylics, drawings, and sculptures are a few of the types of artwork that will adorn the walls and display tables. All of these are created by both professionals and amateurs in the region.
Marilyn Perkins has been the Fine Arts department chairwoman for over 20 years.

Perkins expressed that she would love to see more entries overall. Last year’s submissions, still recovering after the COVID-19 hiatus, were far fewer than in previous years, she said.
“We hope that people will bring their artwork,” Perkins said. “Whether big or small, we will enjoy it.

In the past, local artists Max Bunnell and Joyce Jones were so good at submitting their beautiful artwork, but they are gone now. We need new artists to emerge and enter their artwork.”
Perkins also mentioned that Mesquite has a lot of talented artists and she would love to see more of them submit their artwork at the fair.
“I am hoping to see more entries from kids in our local and Las Vegas schools as we have had in the past,” Perkins expressed.

There are two sections in Fine Arts: Paper and Canvas, and Dimensional. Paper and Canvas has 3 classes: Paper and Canvas, Drawing, and Print Making. And each of those classes has subcategories. Dimensional art has 3 classes: Dimensional, Pottery, and Miscellaneous which have subcategories as well.

The skill divisions include professional, amateur, and handicapped.
There are also age divisions in the judging which include children up to age 6, youth 7-12, teens 13-18, and adults 18 years and up.

All work must be framed, mounted, and ready to hang with eye hooks and wire hangers, except work submitted by school teachers as class projects.

Perkins said that she loves to be in charge of the Fine Arts exhibit at the Fair. “I love to create!” she said. “I like coming up with an idea, setting it up, and decorating the area. Plus, it’s fun to be around the other ladies who work there. We are like a big family.”

Entry applications are available online at ccfair.com. However, if you prefer help, you can wait to apply online at the fairgrounds when dropping off your entry.

Entries will be accepted at the Fair’s Fine Arts Building on Saturday, April 8, 10am – 6 pm or Monday, April 10, 10am – 6 pm. For those in Las Vegas, there will be a pickup location on April 7 at the Alexander Library, 1755 W. Alexander Rd, North Las Vegas, from 1:30-5:30 pm.

More information about the Fine Arts Entries can be found at ccfair.com.
