The Progress
The Clark County Junior Livestock Association hosted its 2nd annual Glen Hardy Memorial Desert Showdown Jackpot last weekend at the Clark County Fairgrounds. The event drew over 500 entries between the four species of pig, lamb, goat and cattle. The youth exhibitors ranged in age from 3 to 21 including kids from all over the west.
The event was open to the public and brought in exhibitors from Nevada, Utah, Arizona and Colorado. The Jackpot also helped support the local livestock showmen.
The judges Tim Hubbard and Sam Mattingly were careful and thorough in their placing of the livestock. They allowed the young exhibitors to see the pros and cons of their animals and learn new ways to help bring their animals to the top condition desired.
Hubbard and Mattingly shared judging duties with one judging lambs and steers and the other judging pigs and goats on the first day. Then they switched on the second day.
The judges spent two days judging the showmanship of the participating exhibitors and the market quality of the animals. They also judged breeding classes and prospect classes on all of the species.
“This weekend went smoothly,” said Lyla Shakespeare, a local showman. “It was a great practice to get us ready for the upcoming Clark County Junior Livestock Show at the Clark County Fair & Rodeo.
“Overall the jackpot was a success and we were grateful for those who came to support the show,” said CCJLA secretary Missy Hardy who is also the chairperson behind the jackpot show said. “We are just really proud of all the CCJLA exhibitors who participated this weekend!”
