Mesquite Hunter Education Safety Class To Be Offered

Mesquite Department of Athletics & Leisure Services is sponsoring a Hunter’s Safety class held by the Nevada Division of Wildlife (NDOW). This class will take place on Saturday, March 18 from 8 am to 4 pm at the Mesquite Recreation Center located at 100 West Old Mill Road. The course will teach individuals the fundamentals of hunting and how to avoid a hunting accident.

“Hunter Safety Education is a mandatory program for those that are interested in hunting that requires a license or draw tag,” said Nicholas Montoya, The Departments Director and NDOW Instructor. “This program is designed to introduce students to several life-long skills that are important to many different types of outdoor recreational opportunities and teaches students basic survival and first aid skills, wildlife identification, the basics of wildlife management, hunting laws, and firearm/archery safety. Hunter education also stresses the importance of individual responsibility and outdoor ethics, and can bring you a lifetime of enjoyment if you are safe and responsible.”

Participants must pre-register at the Mesquite Recreation Center and pick up class materials. Then they must register online with NDOW.
The “Today’s Hunter Workbook” must also be complete prior to attending class.

The deadline to register is Saturday, March 11. Space in the class is limited to 20 students maximum.

The class is open to students ages 12 and up. A parent or guardian of minor students are required to check-in with the NDOW instructor at the beginning of class and pick-up their student from the instructor at class end. Parents or guardians are also solely responsible for student transportation and should notify the instructor at the beginning of class if someone other than a parent or guardian is picking up the student after class.
