MV Art Guild To Present Annual Spring Show

By LAURA ROBISON

The Progress

The Moapa Valley Art Guild (MVAG) will present its annual Spring Art and Craft Show this weekend at the Old Logandale School.

The event takes place Friday, March 10 from 10am – 4pm and Saturday, March 11 from 10am – 3pm. Admission to the exhibit is free. The Moapa Valley High School (MVHS) Jazz Band will provide entertainment on Friday at 12:30 p.m.

This will also serve as an open house for the Old Logandale School Historical and Culture Society (OLSHACS) organization. The museum features many beautiful displays of local history. OLSHACS Director Robin Maughan will be available to answer any questions.

“This year the Spring Show will include art from selected Grant Bowler Elementary students,” said MVAG president Kim Delgadillo “It is the Guild’s hope that all schools will participate next year.”

The Papa Gyro food truck will be serving hot delicious meals to hungry art-goers during the show.
The Spring Show will feature 9 artists’ works. Some of those featured are award winning artist such as Joy Lamb, Susan Perez and Janet Trobough. Much of the fine art will be for sale at reasonable prices. There is also the Guild-owned fine art collection hanging on the walls.

Moapa Valley Art Guild was the brainchild of artist Max Bunnell. In 1955, when he was an art teacher at MVHS, he started a community art show. Max wanted the citizens of the Moapa Valley to have the opportunity to view the world of the visual arts and to appreciate the scope of artistic endeavor. Bunnell’s vision was realized that year with the inception of the Spring Art Show.

In 1993, led by Guild President Jerry Mitchler, the Art Guild instituted a high school art scholarship program. The sales at the Spring show help fund the scholarship(s) given to graduating seniors. Last year’s scholarship winner was Amiah Dominguez.

The Art Guild now has crafters as members, as well as fine artists. There will be several tables of crafters showing off their work with many items for sale.

This year’s MVAG officers are, Kim Delgadillo-president, Stacie Holland-vice president, Bonnie Koopman-secretary and Sherrie Whitney-treasurer.
“It is the Guild’s vision to continue what Max Bunnell started,” Delgadillo said. “There is a great group of members that go above and beyond to bring their love of fine art and crafts to the Valley.”

The Old Logandale School is located at 3011 N. Moapa Valley Blvd.
