Valley-Wide Yard Sale To Be Held This Weekend

By LAURA ROBISON

The Progress

The annual Moapa Valley Community-wide yard sale is slated for this weekend, March 10-11, and the weather should be great to get outdoors and hunt for treasures.

There are lots of yard sale listings on the official event map which is published in this edition on page 3A for folks to plan out a route, if they choose.

The event is sponsored by the Moapa Valley Rotary Club. In the past, the yard sale has been big fundraiser for scholarships that Rotary awards each year to graduating seniors of Moapa Valley High School.

But this year is a little different. “This year we will not he having our big sale at Lin’s parking lot,” said MV Rotary President Suzy Bennett. “Instead, everyone who usually donates items for us to sell, is being asked to give those items and monetary donations to the Terril family.”

Logandale resident Danielle Terril is currently facing a battle with a rare form of stomach cancer battle. This yard sale, located at 1765 Whipple Ave. in Logandale, is raising funds to help pay the enormous expenses for her treatment and travel.

“The Rotary has always appreciated the love and support for our yard sale,” Bennett said. “This year we hope the community will show that same love and support for the Terril family.”
“I love this sweet community,” Bennett added. “Everyone always comes together to help friends and neighbors in their time of need.”

This is the 17th year that residents and visitors alike will roam the Valley looking for unique items. The event began when former Overton resident Virginia Powers had an idea on how to raise funds for scholarships and other nonprofits while bringing in visitors to Moapa Valley. The event caught on quickly and Chris Green, a fellow Rotarian helped it grow, by including local residents who wanted to have their own yard sale during the same weekend.

The Valley-wide sale has morphed into a popular past time. A lot of the sales have baked goods and homemade treats to sell along with their wares.

And while you are out and about, the Second Saturday Market will be holding its regular event from 10-2 at the Clark County Fairgrounds, and the Moapa Valley Art Guild will be hosting its Spring art show open Friday and Saturday at the Old Logandale School.
