OBITUARY: Sylvia Walker Flynt

Sylvia Walker Flynt

Sylvia Walker Flynt

Sylvia Walker Flynt, age 71, of Mesquite, NV passed away at home on March 5, 2023 from complications of recurring high grade SC endometrial cancer. She was born on September 28, 1951 in Birmingham, AL to Arthur A. Goodman and Frankie Holloman. She graduated high school in Montgomery, AL.

Sylvia lived in Luling, LA for 17 years before moving to Florida where she worked as a nurse. Her spirit of adventure then took her to Biloxi, MS and Carthage, MS before eventually heading out west to North Las Vegas, NV for several years. Finally, in 2010, she moved to her final home in Mesquite, NV.

Sylvia had an amazing and dynamic personality reflecting her vision of a classic red head and a Southern belle. She was passionate in everything she did. She loved abundantly. She gave generously to anyone she thought she could help, laughed from her heart, and defended herself, her friends and her views proudly and fervently. Sylvia’s sense of style was “Bling!”, lots of it! She sparkled just like her personality. She loved to dance and always said in her next life she wanted to be a country music star. She was an amazing story teller and enjoyed making people laugh. Her passion was also carried into the casinos where she wrestled the progressive jackpots and loved Live Texas Hold’em Poker.

Her wins never kept up with her losses, but she was certainly not one to give up. Her longest casino marathon was in Biloxi, MS where she became legendary being the only player to completely dominate one stand-alone progressive slot machine all day, every day for 4.5 months (with only her gambler mother holding her seat for her a few hours each day so she could catch some sleep and freshen up). All of her gambling started after she had retired in 1996. During her life she worked as a hair dresser for a short time, became a corporate payroll supervisor, and eventually spent 12 years as a nurse.

At home, she enjoyed creating a clean, unique and vibrant atmosphere that she designed herself. Of course, any recounting of her life cannot go without including her one great political passion, Donald J. Trump. Anyone who knew her around town knew of her Trump enthusiasm as she wore it on her clothes, in her home and all over her vehicle. There was no mistaking her political beliefs. For this, she was likely respected by most, but loved by just half.

She is survived by her 12 year companion and love, Brad Decker, and her very dear friend Linda Coletti, both of whom shared her final moments; a half-sister Paula Lotcher; two step sisters: Renee Quinn and Sharon Lofton; and two nieces: Ashley and Mikel. She is preceded in death by both her parents; her late husband Burl E. Flynt Jr; her only son Gregory Scott Walker, and a brother Arturo Corelli.

Deep appreciation goes out to the staffs of Mesa View Home Care and Mesa View Hospice who were so gracious, kind and helpful at all hours of the day and night to try to make an extremely difficult time as comfortable as possible.

Sylvia will be laid to rest on Friday, March 24, 2023 at 10:40 a.m. at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery with her late husband Burl. (1900 Veterans Memorial Drive Boulder City, NV 89005). An informal Celebration of Life gathering will be held on March 26, 2023 from 1pm-3pm at CasaBlanca Casino Resort in the conference rooms behind the restaurant.

Family and friends are invited to leave a memory of condolence at www.starmortuary.com.
