Representatives of the Southern Nevada Chapter of International Code Council (SNICC) presented a check for $2,500 last week to the Mesquite Department of Athletics and Leisure Services during a City Council meeting held Tuesday evening, March 14.
SNICC Outreach Committee members Mike Clifford and Duane Johnson presented the check to Athletics and Leisure Services Director Nicholas Montoya at the meeting. The funds were a grant for the Department to offer free swim lessons to local toddlers age four and younger.
“This grant is to promote pool safety education and public awareness,” said Clifford during the presentation.
Montoya said that the city has been receiving this annual grant from the SNICC for about ten years now.
“During that time, we have been able to give about 700 free swim lessons to pre-school kids under this program,” Montoya said.
The SNICC is the source of model codes and standards as well as building safety solutions. Clifford said that the Code Council’s codes, standards and solutions are used to ensure safe, affordable and sustainable communities.
“We work hand in hand with industry and the public to have programs for safe build environments and public awareness,” Clifford said.
