MVT Named a Smart Rural Community Provider

Moapa Valley Telephone (MVT) was recently named a Smart Rural CommunitySM (SRC) provider by the NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association.

SRC is a national network of communities powered by innovative rural broadband providers that are building a brighter future for small-town America. The program promotes rural broadband and its role in supporting innovative economic development, effective education, efficient energy distribution and use, state-of-the-art health care and other important issues for rural America.

In order to receive this recognition as an SRC provider, MVT was required to affirm that it offers 100 Mbps broadband to at least 50% of its service area and that it is committed to program principles of collaboration and innovation.

“We not only meet these requirements but exceed them,” said MVT President Brad Lyon. “Over the past couple of years our team has worked many overtime hours to reach the point where at least 64% of serviceable locations can get fiber internet with up to 1 Gig speed.”

Those living in the MVT service territory who would like to see if they are in a fiber ready area can visit join.mvtel.com.

As a result of MVT’s national recognition, Moapa Valley will now be celebrated as a Smart Rural Community in program materials and online at www.smartruralcommunity.com, joining a national network of similarly innovative communities.

Bernie Conrique, president of the Moapa Valley Chamber of Commerce saluted MVT for its hard work to meet these standards, which enable their residents to fully participate in today’s connected society.

“Because of access to high-speed internet, Moapa Valley provides its residents with educational and economic opportunities on par with those in the most connected regions of America,” Conrique stated.

NTCA—The Rural Broadband Association is the premier association representing nearly 850 independent, community-based telecommunications companies that are leading innovation in rural and small-town America.

NTCA Chief Executive Officer Shirley Bloomfield also recognized MVT for this achievement. “We are so excited to welcome another Smart Rural Community provider into this growing network of innovative broadband providers delivering the Internet’s fastest speeds in some of the most remote and rural communities of our country,” Bloomfield said. “I applaud MVT and Moapa Valley for their commitment to enabling cutting-edge technologies that drive innovation and promote economic development in their region and nationwide.”

Moapa Valley Telephone Company was incorporated on April 6, 1909, being the first to bring telephone service to Moapa Valley. As technology continued to advance, MVT evolved into the local internet provider first offering dial-up, DSL, and now fiber internet. Under the Lyon family leadership, MVT continues to bring advanced technology that rivals neighboring Las Vegas. The company is dedicated to serving their community and providing access and resources to keep it a thriving place to live.
