Chorus Programs to Perform in Concert

The local womens chorus, The Half Notes, will be performing in concert on Tuesday, April 25 at 6:30 pm in the Mesquite Community Theater. The ladies group will also be joined by a new Men’s Chorus.
The theme for the evening concert will be “Spring Sing: Love is in the Air.” Each group will sing separately and then join together for other songs.

The Half Notes group originated years ago as part of the Desert Dames. At that time, only members were allowed to join. Since that time, the group has opened the doors to any interested and talented local singers to join.
“We are the community Chorus,” said Half Notes Director Marie Palmer. “We want to grow in voices. Everyone is welcome to join. Men, women, children.”

Even though they began as a women’s chorus, about a year ago t a men’s group was formed known presently as the Mesquite Men’s Chorus.

Each group rehearses separately once-a-week for about 90 minutes. Their rehearsals take place more often, when they have an upcoming performance and joint rehearsals.
“We are anxious to become a mixed voice community chorus,” Palmer said. “All level of abilities are welcome. We give help and instructions where needed. We are looking forward to having a children’s chorus and inter-generational singing opportunities in Mesquite.”

The Half-Notes have performed at organizational luncheons, Virgin Valley High School and Hughes Middle School, local churches and at the community Theater.

Tickets for next week’s performance are $12 and can be purchased on line at www.mctnv.com, at the Mesquite Fine Arts Center or at the box office beginning one hour before showtime.
