Hoffman To Be Remembered At Celebration of Life

Ernie Hoffman

A celebration of life for the late Mesquite resident Ernie Hoffman will take place on Sunday, April 30 at the Wolf Creek Golf Club from 4-6 pm at 403 Paradise Parkway in Mesquite.

Known and loved by many in Mesquite, Hoffman passed away in Mesquite at the age of 87 on Friday, Mar. 3, 2023 after a brief illness.

Hoffman served on numerous civic committees in Mesquite and was widely known for his outspoken, kind and helpful nature. He seldom ever missed a Mesquite City Council meeting and he always had a constructive opinion about every item discussed. He was also a lunchtime regular at the Wolf Creek Clubhouse where he was considered a fond member of the Wolf Creek family.

Hoffman was passionate about giving and the thing he gave to most was the Kids For Sports foundation. He served as a member of the Kids For Sports Advisory Board and was an active participant in all of the events of this important local non-profit organization.

In memory of Hoffman, the Kids for Sports Foundation is creating a $5,000 annual scholarship: “The Ernie Hoffman Scholarship.”

Hoffman was born on March 13, 1935 to Raymond and Mary Hoffman in Reading, Pennsylvania.
After graduating from Muhlenberg Twp High School in 1954, Hoffman went on to serve honorably for three years in the United States Marine Corps. This was followed by a short stint at Penn State University.

His military career wasn’t finished, though. In 1959 he joined the United States Air Force where he served for 20 years. It was there he did a tour of duty in Thailand during the Vietnam War.
After his military service, Hoffman found his true passion with a career in the movie theatre industry.

He worked for and managed theaters in circuits such as Plitt, TM, Cineplex Odeon, Loews, Consolidated, Frank, Century Theatres, and at his final home at Red Hills Cinema in Mesquite.
His career took him to various parts of the country, but he always maintained a love for the West.
Hoffman is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by two sisters: Jan VanHoose and Anna May Herbert (known as Herbie), both of Reading, Pennsylvania – as well as a long list of friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the new Ernie Hoffman Scholarship. These can be mailed to or dropped off at: Kids for Sports c/o Wolf Creek Golf Course; 403 Paradise Parkway, Mesquite, NV 89027. Donations may also be made at kidsforsportsfoundation.com.

The local public including friends and loved ones of Mr. Hoffman are invited to attend the upcoming Celebration of Life this weekend. Those wishing to attend can RSVP at 702-345-6728 or by email to Morgan@golfwolfcreek.com.
