OBITUARY: Mary Shurtleff

Mary Shurtleff

Mary Shurtleff

Mary Louise (Dillin) Shurtleff gained her angel wings on April 13, 2023, with her family by her side, at her home in Mesquite, Nevada. She was born December 18, 1953 in Sheridan, Wyoming to Elsie and Joseph ‘Ed’ Dillin.

Mary was an author, spiritual coach, and motivational speaker. She lived in Mesquite for the past ten years with her husband Bradly Paul Shurtleff, the love of her life for 40 years. Her greatest treasure was her family, and she loved her children and grandchildren with every bit of her heart.

Mary has always been a free spirit. Her passion for travel and absorbing other cultures beckoned her to memorable places around the world, with her husband and family by her side. Her adventures included travel to China to study Feng Shui; a tour to the British Isles and seeing the annual Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Scotland; a cruise through the Mediterranean to Italy, Greece, and Turkey; trips to Germany, Mexico, and so much more. Her most recent adventure was a bucket list trip to Kenya for an African Safari with her family where she visited a Masai Tribe village and stayed at Giraffe Manor.

Mary’s love for knowledge and learning was endless. She took classes and conducted research on a variety of subjects to learn as much as she could, then worked to share that knowledge with others. She authored multiple books, was a guest speaker on radio and podcasts, and mentored many others with her professional training and life experience.

All who knew Mary would speak of her generosity, openness, and positivity. She had a way of welcoming those she encountered, and immediately making them feel a part of her family. Her absence will be felt by all, but her spirit will be watching over them.

Mary’s surviving family includes her sisters: Sharon (Dick) VanWinkle, Carol Harrison, and Betty (Mike) Finn; her brother Tom (Gayle) Dillin. Her children include: Angel (Shawn) McLachlan, Carly (Jason) Wier, Mandi Shurtleff, Paul Shurtleff, and Jessica (Benjamin) Ballard; er grandchildren include Cheyenne, Millie, Cecilia, Remington, Madison, and Savannah.

She is preceded in death by her father Joseph ‘Ed’ Dillin; mother Elsie Dillin Black; step-dad Leroy ‘Bud’ Black; father-in-law Paul Shurtleff; mother- in-law Lois Jean Shurtleff; daughter Mandi Shurtleff; and brothers-in-law Tom Harrison and Ron Clyde.

A celebration of life will be scheduled for a later date in Mesquite, Nevada.

Mary always believed in helping others and giving generously. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity in her name.
