The Progress
The Mesquite City Council approved a bid award for the construction of the second phase of the City’s pickleball court complex during a meeting held Tuesday evening, April 11.
Phase II will bring additional courts to the complex as well as a new restroom facility. The complex is located on north side of Old Mill Road across from the Mesquite Recreation Center.
In an introductory report, City Engineer Travis Anderson said that the city had received sealed bids on March 28 from contractors Trade West Construction and CG&B Enterprises.
The low bid came from Trade West at $1,291,923, Anderson said.
“The engineer’s estimate on the project was $1.6 million,” Anderson told the council. “So we were happy to see that this bid came in under that.”
Anderson recommended that the council approve the award for the project to Trade West.
The only question from council came from Councilman Wes Boger who asked what the funding source was for the project. Anderson responded that half of the funding was coming from federal American Rescue Plan dollars, with the other half coming from the city’s park fund.
With no other input from council or the public, Councilman Brian Wursten made the motion to award the bid to Trade West. The motion was passed with a unanimous vote.
