The Logandale Nevada Stake Center for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was buzzing with activity on Saturday, April 22. Approximately 100 boys ages 7-11 and their leaders were there for the annual Boys Activity Days event. “I will discover my plan to follow Jesus” was the theme of the day’s activities.

“The Church has a program designed to strengthen youth called the Children’s Guidebook,” explained Logandale Stake Primary President, Geniel Ozaki. “It provides ideas and activities to help children with their personal growth, teaching them to develop their gifts and how to follow Jesus Christ. Our goal was to help the boys become more familiar with this guidebook.”

The boys were divided into groups and attended six stations that focused on promoting growth in all aspects of their lives: spiritual, social, physical, and intellectual. The leaders at each station gave a short message or scripture story associated with one of the areas, and then an activity.

One of the stations focused on a New Testament scripture verse in Mark 6:3 which mentions Jesus was a carpenter. The boys made wooden airplanes and paddle boats and learned how to use a power drill.

The boys searched outside for plastic Easter Eggs at another station. Inside each egg contained a geode. The boys smashed the geodes open to see an inside layer of sparkling crystals. Their scripture reference was Matthew 7:7-8, “Seek and ye shall find.”
“The geode station was my favorite because we saw crystals,” Eight-year-old said Gunnar, 8, from the Skyline Ward. “Some were soft and easy to break but some were hard.”

Gunnar commented the geode smashing was like how prayers are answered. Some are answered quickly, but some prayers take a long time for us to receive an answer.

Other stations included an obstacle course, cup stacking, a bean bag toss, and watching videos about the life of Jesus Christ. After each activity, the boys recorded their thoughts in their Children’s Guidebook.

“We desire our youth to become familiar with this program at a young age so it becomes a natural part of their lives,” Ozaki said. “They learn how to set goals and establish good habits in their early years. This program is such a blessing.”
