The Progress
Windy’s Pig Rescue in Overton is being featured this week on an episode of the BYU-TV show “Making Good.” The episode will be aired on Sunday, April 30. But it is currently available for online streaming at www.byutv.org.
The show, which stars well-known actor Kirby Heyborne, highlights nation-wide volunteering. Heyborne travels across the U.S. offering to volunteer anywhere and any way he can.
According to Windy’s owner Janice Ridondo, representatives from the show contacted her after seeing her rescue listed on the JustServe website; an online platform which matches up non-profit organizations with willing volunteers to accomplish needed projects.
“They wanted to come out and film here at the rescue,” Ridondo said. “I was skeptical. But it turned out better than I could have ever imagined.”
The episode has Heyborne working with Janice and other volunters on the farm which rescues pet pigs when their owners find they can no longer care for them. Throughout the show, Heyborne feeds the pigs and cleans up after them. A little apprehensive at first, he learns what a huge job it is to run a pig rescue. And by the end, he even gets a little love from these four legged friends as they show him affection for his service.
Ridondo had good things to say about Heyborne and the nearly-weeklong experience. “They were so professional, so kind, so funny, and so authentic!” she said.
