The Rooster Cottage Consignment Gallery in Mesquite held its Spring Open House event on Saturday, April 22. Co-owners and cousins-in-law Dana and Carol Bulloch host this event each year as a way to show appreciation for the customers who support their business year-round.

Crowds of shoppers flocked to the event as soon as it was open at 10 a.m. Nearly anything you can think of, could found available for sale that day.

Attendees were treated to live music by Terry Bart and his band, with Scott Grove and John Norwig who played some country and western music along with rock ‘n’ roll favorites. Sweet treats were provided by Hole Foods Bakery.

Door prizes were given out to the lucky 30th, 50th, and 70th customers in the store and a free drawing was also held for gift certificates for the store.

Shoppers peruse all the local artisans handy work for sale at last Saturday’s Open House at Rooster Cottage Consignment Gallery.

About 30 local artisans displayed hand made items including handmade pillows and totes, lots of furniture, woodworking items, jewelry, candles, hand knitted crochet items, pottery, art, leather goods and more.

Benita Gamboa has been crafting most of her life. But since she retired she has more time for painting, sewing and making jewelry. “Crafting for me is therapy,” Gamboa said. “I like making gifts that are unique; that anyone would love to give or receive.”

Dave and Danielle Mayoh have lived in Mesquite for six months and this was their first event to show and sell their woodworking items.
“I just like to fiddle around but my creativity lets me make quality gifts,” Dave said.
He had woodworking items that could be hung up like a lantern that could contain candles, plants, flowers or lights.

Shoppers Gail Spoonts, Martha Schleining, and Dee Chrisensen, all from Mesquite, were having such a great time shopping they couldn’t decide what to buy. “This is a consignment store so you’d think everything is secondhand, but this place has really nice things,” Gail said.

Dana Bulloch said this is the 12th year of the spring open house. The two women first opened their doors on May 9, 2011. Dana and Carol owned the entire strip mall buildings, all of which were filled with offices rented out to mostly construction and engineers.

“In 2009 and 2010 due to the downturn in the economy, most of the renters went out of business,” Dana said.
So the women decided to open a store in there to fill the space, but they did not know what kind of retail business to open.
“There was a consignment store already in Mesquite called Conley and Cole,” said Dana. “The owner of that business was already going to close up shop.”

So Dana and Carol decided that a consignment store would be great for them at that location. The owner of Conley and Cole had sent letters to all of her clients explaining the closure, the Bullochs were able to contact those customers to have their items so those clients would not have to come to that store and pick up all their items.” commented Dana.

Inside the store there is jewelry, furniture, candles, soap, cards, kitchen furniture, glass figurines, designer purses, paintings, decor for every room in the home, gifts and much more.

For more information on this successful store, call 702-346-5112 or visit the store at 748 W. Pioneer Blvd. Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
