A diligent crew has been working hard over the past several weeks to assemble and fully stock the inside of the new Tractor Supply Co. store in Mesquite in preparation for its long-awaited grand opening event. That event is planned for this Saturday, May 13 starting bright and early with a ribbon cutting event at 7:45 am. The doors will open at 8 am sharp.

“I know that you always hear it with a new store, but we really are super excited to be here and finally opening,” said store manager Mark Slingerland. “Our team here is chomping at the bit and ready to get the doors open and start taking care of customers. We are ready to be a part of this great community.”

The opening day will have vendors, food trucks, and lots of great specials for first-day shoppers. The store has mailed out an advertising circular which features a lot of great deals for customers. There will be a Tractor Supply hat giveaway to the first 800 customers into the store (one per person). And the store will also be giving away gift cards of various values to early customers.
“We will have some refreshments with cookies and drinks and stuff like that,” Slingerland said. “It will just be a lot of fun.”

The Mesquite store has 20,000 square feet of interior space, with about the same amount in the outside area of the store. Slingerland said that this is significantly bigger than most Tractor Supply locations.

Tractor Supply is listed as a rural farming general store. They carry a little bit of everything including clothing, pet and livestock feed, plumbing supplies, well supplies, trailers, propane, bulk hardware, livestock panels, water storage tanks, power tools, welding supplies, seeds, soils, lawn mowers and much more.

And yes, they even sell tractors at the store. “That is a question that we get all the time,” Slingerland chuckled. “We do carry a small to mid-range tractor as well as riding lawn mower tractors.”

There are currently about a dozen people on staff at the store. These folks have been working all day every day to get shelves installed, displays assembled and merchandise on the shelves for this grand opening. Slingerland said that the store will eventually have about 20 employees when it is fully staffed.

Tractor Supply sets itself apart by its small town-style customer service, Slingerland said.
“We focus more on the individual coming into our store,” he said. “We work with each customer, greet them as they come in the door and find out what they need so they can make us that one stop shop that we pride ourselves on.”

The company provides extensive training to its employees and there are experts in a range of topics on staff to help with just about any project, Slingerland said.
“I have guys that used to do landscaping, welding, electrical; just a little bit of everything,” Slingerland said. “So we have a great mix of individuals for the local teams who can help with just about anything.”

Tractor Supply, as a company, also likes to be involved in the community; especially in agricultural organizations. “We like to especially support things like the 4-H clubs and FFA chapters in town,” Slingerland said. “We try to help out as much as we possibly can whether it is monetary sponsorships or helping with fundraisers or whatever.”

Slingerland said that he plans to put on monthly events like pet adoptions, farmers markets and more. “We are not quite to that point yet, but that is the plan down the road,” he said.

The new Tractor Supply Co. is located at 1310 W. Pioneer Blvd. in Mesquite. All are welcome to attend the grand opening event on Saturday.
