A large gathering of hungry Mesquite residents showed up at the Family Heritage Park on Saturday morning for the annual Mesquite Mayor’s Breakfast.

It was a busy place as a seasoned cooking crew from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da Saints prepared yummy pancakes, sausage, and scrambled eggs for the crowd. All the food was provided by the City of Mesquite.

It was a true community event with everyone happy to be out enjoying the beautiful weather and the warm fellowship. The pavilion was quite crowded and there was a lot of conversation going on among neighbors and friends.

Distinguished guests at the eveng included Nevada Congressman Steven Horsford, Mesquite Mayor Al Litman, Councilwoman Pattie Gallo, Mesquite Days Parade Grand Marshall Larry Wait, U.S. Senate candidate Stephanie Phillips, Mesquite Fire Chief Jayson Andrus, Assistant City Manager Martine Green and more.

Mayor Litman received a surprise gift, when Mesquite resident, Terry Cloud, presented him with a small, unique wall hanging he had created out of watch parts. The mayor thanked him.
“This will go on my office wall,” he said. “It is beautiful!”

Rep. Horsford took some time away from socializing with the public to serve behind the grill tossing pancakes. While eating his own eggs and pancakes, Horsford chatted with the Progress about his fondness for Mesquite. He said he loves the sense of community and the civic activities that take place here. He added that his very favorite event in Mesquite is the 1,000 Flags which takes place during the week of Veterans Day.

“I believe it is one of the best events anywhere in the county for honoring the veterans,” Horsford said.

Fire Chief Andrus brought 14 fire academy cadets who are getting ready to graduate next week.
“They want to be on the Fire Department,” Andrus said. “That means community outreach. So I am getting them started by bringing them here to this community event.”

Mayor Litman said that he was pleased with the crowd who showed up to his breakfast event. “This is a great turnout!” he said. “Much larger than last year. We are having a lot of fun this morning seeing everyone. The LDS church cooks do such a great job.”
