Locals gathered to cheer along the sidewalks of Mesquite Boulevard on Saturday morning, May 6, to participate in the traditional Mesquite Days Parade last week.

The crowds began to assemble at 10 a.m. as a steady stream of 40 participating organizations and businesses proceeded down the middle of street in grand Mesquite Days style. Each expressed its own individual flair with decorations, colors, performances, music and more.

From firetrucks to pom poms the event was a solid representation of Virgin Valley pride.
Near the beginning of the procession was local resident and volunteer extraordinaire Larry Wait who was selected as this year’s Grand Marshall.

Equally impressive were performances by the VVHS Vvettes as they danced to catchy tunes, uplifting attendees who applauded in support.

The Kokopelli Landscaping parade entry was not to be outdone with its oversized tropical display of foliage.

Anytime Towing added to the event with community members happily distributing candy to attendees.
“We enjoy being a part of the community,” said Anytime Towing owner and operator Seth Saterfield following the parade. “We look forward to celebrating the City of Mesquite for many years to come!”

Following the 45 minute display of cheerful community togetherness, many switched gears and headed for the Rec Center fields to enjoy the Mesquite Days carnival and vendor booths which had been on display all week long on the West Field.

Participating vendors included the Nevada Department of Public Safety, the Donkey History Museum, Virgin River Coalition, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, various political groups and more.
Longtime educator Cathy Davis provided locals the opportunity to sign a petition in favor of separating rural southern Nevada schools from the Clark County School District.

Representatives from Mesquite Republican Woman encouraged passersby to register to vote and gave them an oppotunity to do so.

Virgin Valley Water District hosted an interactive booth as Conservation Specialist Natalie Anderson educated the public on where local water comes from and how underground water can become contaminated.

Using a spray bottle she demonstrated how contaminants, such as cow manure, can make its way into reservoirs.

Those looking to indulge in good food were not disappointed as a variety of trucks and booths offered anything from ice cream and funnel cakes to corn dogs and Mexican food.
