‘The King’ Comes to Mesa Valley Estates Open House

Local Residents were invited to attend a 3-day open house at Mesa Valley Estates Senior Living facility in Mesquite last week.

The community was invited to join in the fun entertainment being provided by Mesa View Estates for their in-house residents. While there, visitors were given a tour of the facilities by the staff.

Visitor Jo Romasko took the tour and commented, “It looks like a wonderful place! When my time comes Mesa Valley will be my first choice for Senior Living.”

On Monday May 1 residents and visitors were treated to sherbet floats made by staff members while listening to sing-a-long songs sung by Robin Arnold. Later the crowd was entertained with the soft sounds of piano music by Kenny B. Arnold. Arnold knew and sang every song that was request but one. But he said that next time he would know and sing that song too.

On Tuesday afternoon, author Vincent Leavitt treated guests and residents to a presentation on the History of the Virgin Valley.

On Wednesday Elvis was in the house. Jim Youtsey, Elvis impersonator, entertained the largest audience of the week with his renditions of Elvis.

His singing amused and charmed the many ladies in attendance. Elvis got 79-year-old resident Barbara McCall to her feet dancing to the music, as well as some of the staff members.

There are 54 non-Alzheimer residents currently at Mesa Valley Estates. Over half of these attended the entertainment afternoons, when Elvis performed there were forty plus and the majority were women.

Liz Beliaj, Mesa Valley’s Director of Life Enrichment said, “This open house is our way of getting visitors to see what we have to offer and enriching our residents lives by providing interaction opportunities between the community and our residents.”

Beliaz went on to say that most of the residents are from th Mesquite area and have known may people here. “They were their neighbors and friends when they lived outside Mesa Valley Estates; yet not many people visit here,” Beliaz said. “We are trying to change that and become more active and supportive of our community.”

On May 26, Mesa Valley Estates is having a pie baking contest and the Virgin Valley community is invited to participate. All pies must be submitted by 5 PM on Thursday, May 25. The judging will begin at 2 PM on Friday May 26 and the public is invited to attend.

The annual Alzheimer’s silent auction is scheduled for June 21.
