The third annual Dan Bailey Car Show took place last Saturday, May 13, and drew of crowd of car enthusiasts to Logandale as well as friends and family of Bailey.

This event began as a tribute to Bailey, who loved restoring old broken-down cars. According to son Mark, “My dad would find and fix cars, make them cool, sell them and move on to the next project. In his lifetime he owned over 250 cars.”

Bailey was a fixture in Moapa Valley for many years and at the time of his death in December 2020, he owned 10-12 cars. He could be seen most often driving his two-tone purple 1956 Buick.

Tom Galbreath and Dick O’Dell organized the car show in 2021. The two plan to continue that tradition every Spring to honor their friend.

The day began early as almost 40 cars were set up on the lawn at the Old Logandale School as attendees perused the field. There were 7 categories with the Best of Show winner Joel Thompson and his bright orange 1964 Chevy Nova.

But this event was more than just a car show, it was a fundraiser to help a local family in need. There was a lunch plate and drink available for a $5 donation and lots of donated raffle prizes to help with the funds to be given. The big ticket raffle prize was a Henry pump action .22 rifle. Other prizes were gift certificates donated by local businesses, as well as fishing poles, tackle box, knives, tools, hats and drink coozies.

Instead of a family, this year the raised funds went to Brooke’s Good Deeds.
“Brooke’s Good Deeds does so much to help the entire community,” Tom Galbreath said, “so by helping them we can help a lot of people right here at home, instead of just one family.”

The DJ/entertainment duo of Lori Houston and her daughter Alicia Bush was a big hit during the day.

Family, friends and neighbors could be seen and heard reminiscing about their fallen friend Bailey.
Skip Leffler, Nolan Leavitt, Lonnie Sproul and Dwight Melvin all smiled and chuckled while remembering things. Melvin had known Dan for 50 years, saying, “We ran around together since we lived in Vegas, he had a big heart and cars were part of his being.”

Galbreath said he wants to make next year’s show the biggest and best one yet. For more information he can be reached at 818-429-9332 or hotrod5757@msn.com.
