Cody James Sampson

Cody James Sampson, age 31, died Saturday, May 6, 2023 in Colorado City, Arizona while visiting family. He was born December 24, 1991 in Las Vegas, Nevada to Dennis James Sampson and Wendy Ione Sampson (Irby).

Cody grew up in Moapa, Nevada where he attended Perkins Elementary, Mack Lyon Middle School and Moapa Valley High School. During his childhood he enjoyed being involved in 4-H showing pigs at the county fair, riding 4-wheelers, camping, hunting, and spending time with his cousins and friends. Around the age of 18 he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where he met his longtime fiancé Alicia Raugust.

As a young adult Cody received his diploma and graduated with honors. He also became an aid to help others get their diplomas. In 2017 he moved to Salem, Oregon to be with his family. He became a project manager for a custom landscaping company which he enjoyed very much. Cody is known by many for taking his dog ‘Shae’ to the job sites with him.

Cody was an amazing son, brother, uncle, and step-dad. He loved and cherished his step-daughter Alivia, nieces and nephews. He was always patient and attentive with them and always made sure to take them on trips and outings.

As an adult he still enjoyed being in the outdoors but he especially enjoyed fishing, cooking, and being with his friends and family. He had many favorite spots along the rivers in Oregon that he loved to fish at. He loved the day he landed a Chinook Salmon. After he admired it for a moment, he released it while holding onto the memory. His favorite food was a cheeseburger and his favorite desserts were carrot cake and brownies. He loved sweet foods! His favorite color was blue. Favorite flower was the Stargazer Lily. Favorite football team since childhood was the Green Bay Packers.

Two unique facts about Cody is that he was born on Christmas Eve, and had two crooked pinky fingers. Cody did not like his pinky fingers but to those who loved him most they admired that feature about him. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by Alicia’s daughter, Alivia Hanna Raugust; his father, Dennis Sampson and his mother, Wendy Sampson, both of Salem, OR; two sisters: Chandy (Michael) Baldoni of Dundee, OR and Cadie Sampson and her four children of Salem, OR; and nephews and nieces: Demario Bridges, Aaron Gaitor, Kyra Bridges, and Raelynn Murray.

He was preceded in death by his longtime fiancé, Alicia Raugust; and grandparents: Mark Irby, Dorothy Irby (Flowers), Dean Sampson, and Margaret Curtis (Sampson).

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Moapa Chapel, 1420 Barlow Avenue, Moapa, Nevada. Visitation will begin one hour prior to services at the chapel. Interment will follow in the Logandale Cemetery, 3228 Lyman Street, Logandale, Nevada.
