The Virgin Valley FFA Chapter held its final event of the year last week. This included their banquet and cowboy prom. The officer team prepared a week in advance with the location, script, and advertising. Brynne Tedford, her mom, and Rachel Shorter created the decorations for the event which turned out amazing!

The banquet was held in the student center at 5 p.m. The classic opening ceremony was held which was followed by awarding FFA degrees. The chapter was honored to have 21 students receive their Greenhand and 8 receive their Chapter degrees. The Greenhand degree goes to first-year students and the Chapter degree is the highest degree a chapter can bestow on its members.

The state results for the local FFA students were announced. Then Chapter Advisor Bailey Kesl recognized her seniors with a certificate, cord, and bracelet. The next awards were peer-to-peer nominated and star students. Paola Trujillo gave her retiring President’s speech and followed with an advisor recognition.

To wrap up the banquet, the new officers were announced and installed. The Virgin Valley chapter was excited to have 13 newly installed officers for the next school year.

The 2023-2024 President Rosalie Ponce said she is grateful and excited to lead Virgin Valley’s FFA Chapter. “I can’t wait to run the community egg hunt with my Vice President Kitzia Perez,” she said. “It’s going to be an amazing opportunity.”

The new officers closed the ceremony and everyone took gathered to take photos.
But that wasn’t the end of the fun. At 7 p.m. a favorite event, the Cowboy Prom, was held in the school’s outdoor quad area. The chapter was lucky enough to bring DJ Patrick Wright for a second year!

The night was filled with laughter, dancing, and singing. Wright taught the crowd a four-wall line dance and The Wobble. Other favorite dances of the night were the Church Clap and Footloose.

The officer team was excited to finish out the year in such a fun way after all the hard work they put in.

The new school year is going to bring amazing things for the new officer team and the chapter can’t wait to see what they put on.
