Grant M. Bowler Elementary School held its 5th Grade Promotion Ceremony on Friday, May 19. Located at the Fine Arts Building at the Logandale Fairgrounds, the ceremony featured over 125 fifth graders.

The honored students entered the building two at a time to the music “Eye of the Tiger” followed by their fearless 5th-grade teachers: Carolyn DeLaFrance, Jessie Bush, Tamara Harding, and Lisa Lacy.

After a welcome by student Cooper Davies and the Pledge of Allegiance, the 5th graders entertained the audience by singing a song called “Beautiful Life.”

Following the musical number, several students were recognized for various awards.
The Great American Award, which is sponsored each year by Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick was presented to four students this year.

This award presents a challenge to students. To receive it, the students must memorize and recite The Gettysburg Address, the names of all 46 U.S. Presidents in chronological order, all 50 states with their capitals in alphabetical order, the first verse of the Star Spangled Banner, The Preamble to the Constitution of the United States, and the Pledge of Allegiance.

Recipients of this award were Taylee Hess, Elsie Marshall, Preslie Walters, and Braxton Robinson. The 4 students stood on stage recited the Preamble from memory.

A few students were awarded for achieving more than 250 points in the school’s Accelerated Readers Program. Cooper Davies was recognized as the top reader.

Bowler Principal Kelby Robison recognized five students for receiving the President’s Educational Excellence Awards for having straight A’s throughout elementary school. Each of the recipients received a certificate signed by President Joe Biden. These students were Kylianne Solomon, Mesa Whited, Braxton Robinson, Elsie Marshall, and Jaeda Muaina.

After the many awards and recognitions, each fifth grader was called up on stage to receive their Certificate of Promotion, which was followed by a slide show of the students.

After singing their school song one last time together, the students were advanced by Principal Robison to Mack Lyon Middle School (MLMS). Meg Evans, MLMS Student Body President was on hand to congratulate and welcome the class of 2030 to the middle school.

After the ceremony, Miley Bradshaw and Megan Jolley said they were a little sad to be leaving Bowler. But they were also excited about all the classes/teachers they will have this fall at the middle school.

Gabriel Estrada and Hudson Hickman also mentioned they were a little sad to be leaving GMB but were very excited to play “Hero Ball” in PE as sixth graders next year.
