The Progress
The Rotary Club of Mesquite gave five $1000 scholarships to five Beaver Dam High School seniors on Tuesday, May 16.
The funding for the scholarships came from the generosity of the Ann Rice Foundation/Trust. Rice was a well-known education advocate and philanthropist in the community who passed away last year.
Each of the five recipients of the award was required to apply with a written essay explaining “What it takes to be a good Leader.” There were only five entries so they gave each entry a $1,000 award.
The happy recipients included Veronica Ruiz, Ethan Monroe, Zittlays Gonzalez, Jimena Gutierrez and Kaylee Shelley.
The five students were presented the awards by Rotary Club Treasurer Kevin Boyer who is also the Business Manager of the Littlefield School District.
Each year the Rotary Club of Mesquite gives out scholarship awards to local students.
The noon Rotary Club of Mesquite meets each Tuesday at the Mesquite Library in the Community Room. For more information about joining Rotary, call 916-813- 9451
